Some people believe we are born with a ‘Predetermined Destiny’, we follow a path already set out for us. Others believe we have complete
control over our future, ‘it is in our hands’. I believe both are true! I feel everyone, & everything, comes into our lives for
a reason; we don't always know the reason. Sometimes it is for us, sometimes it is for someone else.
We often feel like we have NO
control over our lives, but how we deal with bad situations is in our control. How we handle the good, and bad, determines where we
go in life and how we feel about our past. We can let things take us down and destroy our lives, or we can learn from them and grow!
Life altering situations have helped me refocus my energy and make major life changes. I now use my personal, and professional, experiences
to help others do the same.
I consider myself to be very blessed, I have had many opportunities, over the years. Some I worked to make happen, others seemed to come to me. None were because I was born into wealth or leisure! Here are some of the things I have done:
-
Traveled across Canada, and much of the USA.- Held a number of executive, & advisory, positions in various local, provincial, national & international clubs & organizations as well as for the Federal government.
- Guest speaker for business development & networking.
- Guest speaker for infertility groups.
- Papers published on various topics such as animal husbandry, behavior management, genetics, grief, & infertility.
- Adopted a wonderful little Ojibway girl, became a mommy.
- Head handler of world record-breaking dog sled racing team - we were in the Guinness Word Book of Records.
- Operated a foster home for high needs children & provided private care for individuals with special needs.
- Have had a number of opportunities to participate in media events by writing articles & doing radio commercials.
I believe effective coaching requires a personal connection. A coach/client relationship is most effective when both people can relate to each other. As a result, here is a quick overview that you may find of interest:
I have had more than my share of life altering situations that were ‘beyond my control’. Some were great (my daughters adoption), some were not (my husbands death and my childs high needs). How I learned to deal with these life altering situations allows me to help others improve their lives. After battling infertility for over 15 years, it was suggested I combine my grief counseling, writing and desire to help others. In 1998 we adopted our 2-year-old daughter, who we had fallen in love with and in 2005, I lost my partner of 9 ˝ years. After losing my husband, and needing to start a new life, I consulted with a life coach, at that point I realized what I was meant to do with my life. I began a new career and a new means of helping others, I took additional training to stop counseling and become a coach.
I consider myself to be a very spiritual person; I gain a lot of strength from my faith and friends. I have always had a strong interest in spirituality; I have studied various religions and the bible, but am not a church person. This strong faith, and my close friends have gotten me through some extremely difficult times. They have helped me to not only conquer these times, but to grow from them. I have embraced my daughters culture and now dance, with her, at Pow Wows. We both participate in a variety of cultural, and spiritual, activities.
I advocate for my daughter, and other children with mental illness, developmental delays and other special needs. I pride myself on my wide range of interests and being able to discuss almost anything. I love to read, write, sew, knit, bead, hunt, fish, learn and so much more. I make all of our dance regalia and cook elaborate meals, when I get the chance. I love to work on, and around, my house. There is so much more, I could be here forever, so if you want to know, ask....
As your coach, I will work with you on both short and long-term personal development plans. My role is to challenge you and hold you accountable for what you do with your life. Coaches are very action oriented and want to help their clients reach their goals. Coaching involves posing the tough questions that no one else around you would dare to ask. A coach holds you accountable for your actions and helps do away with procrastination. Your coach cannot, and does not, promise that you will take any specific action or attain any specific goals. As your coach, I am a learning partner rather than the expert. And yes, as you can see, I probably do understand and I probably can relate!
